Old Fashioned Pop Corn Balls

Notes:

Ingredients:
2 C. Granulated Sugar
1 1/2 C. Water
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 C. Light Corn Syrup
1 tsp. White Vinegar
1 tsp. Vanilla
3/4 tsp. Food Color (optional)
5 Quarts Popcorn (popped,no salt or butter added)

Preparation:
Lightly butter sides of a two quart sauce pan, add sugar, water, salt, syrup, and vinegar, mix well. Place on medium low heat stir mixture and bring to a boil. When mixture begins to boil place lid on pan and time for 30 seconds. Remove lid and replace your spoon with a fresh spoon, these steps help prevent syrup from crystallizing. If you would like to color syrup now is the time to add food color, stir. Cook mixture to a hard ball stage (250 – 266 degrees, or until syrup forms a hard ball although it’s pliable) stir time to time. When syrup reaches hard ball stage remove from heat add vanilla and then slowly pour over popcorn, stir until corm is coated. With lightly buttered hands form popcorn in to balls. When popcorn balls are cool wrap individual popcorn balls with plastic wrap.

The youngsters will need a little help forming the balls because of the syrup being pretty warm to the touch. The young at any age can not resist a Old Fashioned Popcorn Ball, and the memories of making them.
